About the Awards

ET in association with RAI brings to you ‘The ET Retail Awards 2014’, an annual awards programme designed to celebrate best practices in the retail sector.  The Economic Times Retail award is planned to publicly recognize and encourage the pursuit of excellence in business operations, customer service, merchandise mix and corporate social development.

The Economic Times (ET), India’s leading business daily combines its forces with Retailers Association of India (RAI), the foremost voice for India’s retailers and our Knowledge Support PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), to create a property through collaborative effort that truly honors the ones who have mastered the art of retail.

As Steve Jobs said, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower”. The ET retail Awards provides a platform to all players, regional and national to showcase their grass root level innovation that has had far reaching effects on not only their business but also for the sector as a whole. Hence, the theme for this year’s awards is ‘Innovation and impact’.

The Economic Times developed these retail awards to serve as a level playing field to large and small players in the sector. The categories have been designed in ways that cover all aspects of business, thus ensuring that not a single out-of-the box idea goes unnoticed. In their effort to partner with the pioneers of change, ET has divided the award categories into four large segments

1) ET special category                                                      2.) Functional category                                                    
3) Emerging trend category                                               4.) Theme based category

While some categories maybe fixed every year, there are certain categories that will be based on the trends in the sector and some which will be theme based. Each sub category has been defined in detail (refer the award categories section) so that there is clarity for retailers to nominate themselves in each category. 

METHODOLOGY

All applicants shall be subject to an extensive research and evaluation process designed to determine winners in the truest sense of the term.

Call for entries: The process shall begin with a call for entries. The last date for receiving the entries is 26th February, 2014.

Data collation and validation: Data shall be gathered and validated with respect to the applications and data supporting that are received, in accordance with the pre-determined set of rules and regulations.

Jury rounds: The applications will go through two rounds of Jury. All entries will first be appraised by an independent jury that will shortlist the top three entries in each category. A final jury will then again review the shortlisted entries and determine the winners based on the presentation of their business case. The votes of the jury as indicated in the score sheets will be captured for independent tabulation by PricewaterhouseCoopers Ltd.
